Throw a Disco Glam Dinner Party this New Year’s Eve

If you ask us, New Year’s Eve is the perfect excuse to wear a sparkly outfit and enjoy a cocktail or two. This year, Selena hosted a sophisticated, intimate dinner party with just enough shimmer to make it feel special.

We’re giving you all the info you’ll need to recreate this disco glam look. But before we dive in, let’s discuss how you can translate your interior decor style into a party that represents you.

How to Plan a Party That Fits Your Vibe

The first step in hosting a good party is planning. Don’t just run to Target or Party City hoping to pick up a couple things. Trust us, you’ll end up walking away with stuff you don’t need. Instead, we suggest you start by searching for inspiration on Pinterest, and saving all the looks that speak to you. Use search words that closely match your style, like neutral party decor or modern floral centerpieces

Next, it’s time to narrow your focus. Pick and choose the elements you love to help develop a concrete image of the party you want to host. Write them down, so you don’t forget! Then, with some direction in mind, you’ll be ready to start combing the internet, or Target and Party City.

When Selena set out to plan this party, she wanted a little glamour without any bold, bright colors because that’s just not how we roll. We’re all about light, bright neutrals here at Fleurish! After finding a few sparkly, disco-themed images as well as some bold black and white party images on Pinterest, she imagined a glitzy yet muted event perfect for a New Year’s celebration.

Our Disco Glam New Year’s Eve Party

To bring Selena’s vision to life, we started by placing baby’s-breath in round glass vases down the center of the table for an ethereal look. We could have arranged one or two larger vases instead, but the sheer quantity of flowers made a much greater impact. You can always get away with a little excess on the holidays, right? We then layered in some black taper candles to give contrast to this classic, sophisticated look.

If you’re on the hunt for neutral florals, baby’s-breath is a fantastic option. It’s affordable and easy to find at your local Trader Joe’s!

We love the juxtaposition of simple, dainty elements, like baby’s-breath, against sparkling statement pieces, like disco balls. It really takes Selena’s style and kicks it up a notch!

To create the look of climbing florals, we wrapped the pergola surrounding the dining table with chicken wire, then weaved in the stems in a very similar way to how we created this floral piece. Then, we placed the disco balls sparingly around the perimeter for contrast.

There are lots of other ways to incorporate shiny pieces into your disco glam party. Add some glitter to the table or tape a tinsel curtain to a wall as a festive backdrop for pictures. You can even request that your guests wear something sparkly!

No matter which theme you choose, don’t forget to consider lighting.  If your party is outdoors, light candles on the table, string lights over your patio, or turn on soft, subtle pendants to set the mood.

Make it Bright & Bubbly with a Pink French 75

Pink French 75 Cocktail Recipe

Adapted from Cookie & Kate

Get the party going the moment your guests arrive by serving a welcome drink. This pink twist on the classic French 75 is the perfect accompaniment to any New Year’s Eve party (but we may be a little biased—it’s also Selena’s favorite drink).

Ingredients (per cocktail)

  • 1 ½ ounces gin or Cognac, whichever you prefer!

  • ¾ ounce fresh lemon juice (about ¾ medium lemon)

  • ¾ ounce simple syrup (recipe below)

  • 2 to 3 ounces chilled rosé Champagne (enough to top the glass)

  • Lemon peel, for garnish

Simple syrup (yields enough for 5 cocktails, scale as necessary)

  • ¼ cup honey or sugar

  • ¼ cup water

Instructions

  1. To make the simple syrup: combine the honey (or sugar) and water in a small saucepan. Warm over medium heat, whisking occasionally, until the honey or sugar has dissolved into the water. Remove the pot from the heat and let it cool.

  2. To make a cocktail (you can make multiple drinks at once): fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Pour in the gin, lemon juice, and simple syrup. Securely fasten the cap on the shaker and shake until well chilled, about 20 seconds. Strain the liquid into glasses and top with Champagne.

  3. For garnish, twist your lemon peel and hold it for a few seconds to retain the shape.

Time-Saving Tip: Prep your drinks before guests arrive by combining all ingredients except the Champagne. Then, when the time is right, top each cocktail off with bubbles as you serve it. You can prepare your lemon peels ahead of time, too, by wrapping them around a silicone mixing spoon. Cover with plastic wrap and leave in the fridge until you’re ready to serve.

Cheers!
